Lowertown’s newest library doesn’t have late fees – take a seed, leave a seed

By The Lowertown Health & Wellness Committee

Gardeners in Lowertown have a community resource to rely on this spring – the Lowertown Seed Library opened on May 1!

The Seed Library is located beside 181 Bruyere Street, marked by the red pin on the map, and is attached to the fence of the community garden. Its outdoor location makes it easy to stop by while out for a walk or tending nearby garden plots. The idea behind the Seed Library is simple: take what you need, give what you can. Neighbours are welcome to take seeds for their own gardens; whether you’re growing vegetables, herbs, or flowers on a balcony, in a backyard, or in a shared garden space.

As you’re working on your garden (or purchasing seeds this spring) please consider donating a portion of your garden centre seed purchase to share with a neighbour through the Seed Library. Small paper baggies are provided on site, and donors are invited to write a few details on the bag, such as the type of seed or any growing notes, to help the next gardener get started.

The goal of the Lowertown Seed Library is to help ensure that everyone who would like to garden in the neighbourhood has the opportunity to do so, while encouraging sharing, connection, and learning within the community.

Whether you’re an experienced gardener or planting for the first time, the Lowertown Seed Library offers a small but meaningful way to grow food, flowers, and community together!
