Setting up success: new youth volleyball program in Lowertown
By Nada Ziane, for the Lowertown Community Resource Centre
The Lowertown Community Resource Centre (LCRC) is pleased to announce the relaunch of a volleyball program starting in February for children aged 9 to 15. This program aims to provide young people with an opportunity to discover and play volleyball in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment. Thanks to funding from Volleyball Canada and support from the Lowertown Community Association, these sessions will be offered free of charge to families in the neighborhood.
The sessions (offered on Wednesday evenings in the gym at De La Salle High School) will be supervised by a qualified coach with over 12 years of experience in volleyball. The coach will offer recreational training tailored to the age and skill level of the participants, with an emphasis on learning basic techniques, teamwork, coordination, and respect. No prior experience is required, allowing all interested youth to participate, regardless of their level. Registration is available by visiting crcbv.ca
The LCRC is recognized for its commitment to offering free and accessible activities to residents of Ottawa’s Lowertown neighbourhood. Its primary mission is to support the well-being, social inclusion, and personal development of community members, regardless of age or circumstances. The Centre serves as a welcoming gathering place where families, children, and seniors can meet, learn, and participate in enriching activities. Among the services offered are academic support programs for youth, community workshops, and sports and recreational activities that promote an active lifestyle.
This volleyball program fits perfectly with the Centre’s goals of building children’s self-confidence, encouraging regular physical activity, and fostering positive social connections. The LCRC is proud to continue to play an essential role in the development of youth and the vitality of the local community.
See you on the court!
