Lowertown hosts its first-ever block party – with spooky flair and community spirit

Lowertown came alive this October as Saint Brigid’s transformed into a Halloween haven for the neighbourhood’s first-ever Lowertown Block Party, hosted in collaboration with the Lowertown Community Association’s Health and Wellness Committee.
The block party featured over 30 local vendors, live music, food and drinks, a costume contest, and unforgettable performances by Ottawa’s own drag royalty – Portia Züm Züm, Mx. Tique, and Banshii Waylon – who brought the house down with their high-energy sets and Halloween spirit. Fantastic local businesses like the Milk Shop, Lowertown Brewery, and Magpie Jewellery all donated prizes for our costume contest. Lowertown neighbours also enjoyed the sounds of the Ottawa Pops Orchestra and Ottawa Celtic Choir, plus a festive atmosphere at Brigid’s Well pub.

The Health and Wellness Committee organized the event to bring neighbours together and celebrate all that makes Lowertown special. Building on the success of this first block party, the committee hopes to make it an annual tradition! Beyond events like this, the committee continues to champion initiatives that support connection and wellbeing in the community – from projects in the Lowertown community garden to activities that promote local art, health, and belonging.

If you’d like to get involved or learn more about upcoming initiatives, the committee is always looking for new members and fresh ideas - email info@lowertown-basseville.ca to get involved.
