The Circular Innovation Council, a national environmental not-for-profit organization, is excited to announce the launch of Reuse Ottawa. It’s an innovative opportunity for Ottawans to help reduce single-use plastic waste by choosing reusable containers for their takeaway food at participating grocery stores and restaurants.
Participating in Reuse is easy! Reuse Ottawa’s participating grocery stores and restaurants – in Lowertown and beyond – will have reusable containers they will offer to customers to borrow at no cost for their takeaway meals.
Starting October 17th, consumers can easily borrow containers for free and track their impact via an app or receive updates to their phone number. The containers are free to borrow as long as they are returned within 14 days. Convenient collection bins will be located at participating businesses and other drop off locations in the city. Consumers will also be eligible for discounts and incentives when choosing and returning their reusable containers. Reuse Ottawa is a convenient, innovative, and collaborative way for Ottawans to reduce waste, support local businesses, and engage in building a more sustainable Ottawa. What is a Circular Economy?
Reuse Ottawa showcases the importance of a circular economy in Canada. It is a new way of looking at how we make and use products. It minimizes waste and makes the most of the Earth’s resources, like wood from trees or minerals from the ground. In an economy where we make products that last longer, that can be fixed, and reused again and again, we move away from a linear economy (take-make-waste) towards a more sustainable future. By offering containers that can be reused, Reuse Ottawa is bringing an easy and accessible solution to residents who will significantly reduce single-use plastic waste.
