Guertin Poirier – lawyers with heart

Interviewed by Janhabi Nandy

Guertin Poirier, located on Beechwood Avenue, is a boutique law firm offering bilingual services in residential real estate, wills, estates, and notary public services. “Buying or selling a home involves a lot of planning – from packing boxes, to finding a new school for your children, to arranging your mortgage. As your real estate lawyers, we want to alleviate some of this stress by handling all the legal details of your transaction. We work closely with your agent, broker and lender to efficiently manage your file. As soon as we open your file, we will guide you through the next steps, ensuring that you know exactly what to expect on your closing date.”

Guertin Poirier is the successor of Guertin Lawyers, a well-established and successful law firm previously located in Orleans. Guertin Lawyers was owned by Louis Guertin and his daughter, Natalie Guertin who has worked for Guertin Lawyers since 2009. Michèle Poirier joined the firm in 2016. After Louis Guertin retired in December 2021, Natalie and Michèle took over the firm in January 2022, rebranded as Guertin Poirier and moved the firm from Orleans to Beechwood. “We decided to open our doors on Beechwood Avenue as it offers a central, accessible, and bilingual location. Natalie also lives in Vanier North and walks to work, which has always been a dream of hers!” Guertin Poirier is a fourth-generation law firm. As well as Natalie’s father, her grandfather, Bernard, and great-grandfather, Waldo, all practiced law in Ottawa. “We still have clients who worked with Natalie’s grandfather. They remember him for his empathy and patience. We are proud to continue this legacy by offering a human approach to real estate law.”

Michèle is originally from New Brunswick, where she loves to vacation in the summer and visit her friends and family. After closing her law practice in Halifax, Michèle followed her husband to Ottawa for work and fell in love with our beautiful city and province. Michèle and Natalie were introduced by a mutual friend and quickly developed a working relationship. Over the following four years, they alternated maternity leaves while supporting each other’s professional careers and goals. By the end of 2020, they were finally ready to team up and co-founded Guertin Poirier.

Guertin Poirier strives to offer honest, compassionate, and efficient service to their clients. “Buying or selling a home is a major life event that should be handled with the greatest care and attention. At Guertin Poirier, we offer a personalized service to your unique situation. We see our clients not as transactions or file numbers, but as individuals and families going through a major life transition. We offer open communication throughout the process, ensuring that our clients feel secure and confident about their purchase or sale.”
